The Graveyard Books: identifying the techniques that the author uses

The words that the author uses to make a scary story uses words like bone, blade, shadow. The line that shows that the author uses the imagery technique is “ The knife had a handle of polished black bone, and a blade finer than any razor.” The author uses the senses technique. An example of that technique is “The man Jack sniffed the air.” which shows that he is using his nose to smell. Another example is “It was not until the police sirens sounded and first a police car, then an ambulance, then an unmarked police car with a siren blaring, sped past him on their way up the hill that, reluctantly, the man Jack turned up the collar of his coat, put his head down, and walked off into the morning.” This is an example of using the sense, sight. He uses his eyes to see. “I’m safe too.” is an example of using the technique: sentences length and structure. This can show that the author is trying to emphasize that phrase. An example of adjectives are obedient, quite and satisfied, etc. An example of adverb is enthusiastically.

  2. You gave many good answers in your blog but I think that you forgot to "slant" the words from the book.
